3rd Party Media gives you a holistic view of your brand’s traction across essential 3rd party channels, including TV, Radio, Podcast, and Web (i.e., news/PR). In this view, you will be able to track your brand’s raw mention count, the corresponding ratings/impact of those mentions, and a new proprietary metric we at Alembic call the “narrative.”
- Mention: for TV, Radio, and Podcast, this is a single reference to your brand’s name; for Web, this is a single article that references your brand
-
Ratings/Impact: for TV, this is the number of viewers that were watching when your brand was mentioned; for Podcast, this is the number of listeners to the podcast episode that your brand was mentioned in.
- Note: We currently have no ratings/impact data for Radio or Web.
- Narrative: this is a group of TV, Radio, or Podcast mentions spanning multiple days and/or sources that have the same 200 characters of surrounding text, making it an automated way to capture ad placement or syndication in these offline channels
As with all our views, you will see this data in helpful aggregates, allowing you to extract high-level insights from the macro ebbs and flows, as well as at the individual mention or narrative level, letting you drill in on the specifics of what’s working for you or not.

3rd Party Media
3rd Party Media consists of the following sections:
- Overview: The Overview tab is where you will see the highest-level snapshot of your 3rd Party Media data.
- Settings: The Settings tab is where you will go to create and manage your 3rd Party Media reports.
Note: Within 3rd Party Media, like in our other views, you will only see output for the data sources and time frames you have selected.
- The default data source is your Default Group. You can see this by expanding the Channel Selector when you first enter 3rd Party Media. To change the data source, select a different group or report.
- The default time frame is 90 days. You can see this in the Date Picker when you first enter 3rd Party Media. To change the time frame, adjust the duration or date range.
Overview Tab
The Overview tab is where you will see the highest-level snapshot of your 3rd Party Media data. It is organized into four main graphs.
There’s a row of Report chips at the top of the page that indicate which reports are currently being displayed. This is useful for knowing at a glance what data you are seeing in the graphs.
Mentions by Type
The Mentions by Type graph plots the total number of mentions per channel that were detected within the selected time frame for your brand. This graph shows you the relative mindshare of your brand across TV, Radio, Podcast, and Web channels.
Ratings/Impact by Type
The Ratings/Impact by Type graph plots the corresponding ratings/impact per channel of the mentions that were detected within the selected time frame for your brand. This graph shows you the relative reach of your brand across TV and Podcast channels (we currently have no ratings/impact data for Radio or Web).
Top Sources
The Top Sources graph plots the top ten places where your brand got its most traction in the selected time frame, by Mentions or Ratings/Impact. You can toggle between the two via the switch in the upper right-hand corner of the graph. For TV and Radio, the data points are grouped by Network where available, and Station otherwise; for Podcast, they are grouped by Author; and for Web, they are grouped by Domain. In the main tab (Top Sources), all channels are ranked relative to one another; the sub-tabs (TV, Radio, Podcast, Web) break out each channel on its own. Use this graph to know what media outlets are most sympathetic to your brand.
Top Narratives
This element is set to Grouping by: Narratives by default. In this state, you will see the Top Narratives graph and Narratives Breakdown table. To see the All Mentions graph and Mentions Breakdown table instead, toggle the relevant switch to Grouping by: Mentions.
Top Narratives & Narratives Breakdown
The Top Narratives graph plots your top narratives by mention count across the selected time frame, ten narratives at a time. You can choose to view your top narratives by ratings instead by toggling the Mentions <> Ratings/Impact switch in the upper right-hand corner of the graph. In the main tab (Top Narratives), all channels are ranked relative to one another; the sub-tabs (TV, Radio, Podcast) break out each channel on its own.
Note: Top Narratives does not currently include Web mentions.
Toggling from Overlaid to Totaled will stack your top narratives rather than plotting them relative to one another.
The Narratives Breakdown table below the graph lists each narrative in the time period (default-sorted by Mentions count, descending), including fields for:
- The report the narrative came from (Report Name)
- The First Air Date of the narrative
- The Length (in Days) of the narrative
-
The Narrative itself, including:
- The name of the narrative (editable)
- An example mention included in the narrative, in context
- Mentions count for the narrative
- Ratings/Impact for the narrative
- Whether the narrative is a Campaign, Partner buy, Syndication, or “Not Set” (Campaign/Syndication)
- Button to Exclude false-positive narratives
Clicking on a narrative in the Narratives Breakdown table will open up the Narrative Details Side Drawer for that narrative.
You can see excluded narratives by tabbing to the Excluded Narratives table, where you can re-Include any narratives that were falsely excluded.
Mentions & Mentions Breakdown
The All Mentions graph plots your total daily mention count across the selected time frame. You can choose to view your total daily ratings instead by toggling the Mentions <> Ratings/Impact switch in the upper right-hand corner of the graph. In the main tab (All Mentions), all channels are intermixed; the sub-tabs (TV, Radio, Podcast, Web) break out each channel on its own.
Note: There is no Overlaid option when toggled to Grouping by: Mentions.
The Mentions Breakdown table below the graph lists each mention in the time period (default-sorted by Air Date, descending), including fields for:
- The report the mention came from (Report Name)
- The Date/Time of the mention
- The Narrative (if any) the mention is a part of
- The Mention itself, in context (for Web mentions, this is the article title and thumbnail)
- Mentions count for the mention (only one mention per row)
- Ratings/Impact for the mention
- Button to Exclude false-positive mentions
Note: When toggled to Grouping by: Mentions, tabbing through the table will not update the graph.
Clicking on a mention in the Mentions Breakdown table will open up the Mention Details Side Drawer for that mention.
You can see excluded mentions by tabbing to the Excluded Mentions table, where you can re-Include any mentions that were falsely excluded.
Settings Tab
The Settings tab is where you will go to create and manage your 3rd Party Media reports.
Note: TV/Radio, Podcast, and Web reports live in separate tables. To change the type of reports you want to see, toggle the respective radio buttons at the top of the table.
In the Actions menu for each report, you can:
- Edit & Save as New: This creates a new query using the report's query as the starting point. The existing report remains as initially created.
- Create Report Filter (Web reports only):
- Archive: A report cannot be deleted from the Active tab, but it can be archived, which removes it from the Active tab.
- Detect Events / Stop Detecting Events: Start or stop detecting events for the report.
